God gave us dominion over all the land and animals?

What do we think of this? I know – it’s religion and, therefore, mostly bullshit…but a lot of the world follows these words.

“God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

Really? If there is a God or superior being who, at some point in our ridiculously short history as a species, said these words as a guide for humans to live by, then IMO that God/superior being is an absolute idiot. Look around us. We are destroying everything. Subdue? What happened to respecting all life? What happened to compassion? What happened to being humble?

I believe all life is equal. Nothing is superior. As soon as we see ourselves as part of a whole and integral and connected to it, we finally have a true sense of ourselves. I hate the ridiculously egocentric idea that humans are superior or, indeed, that we have dominion over all other animals. We have the power…to destroy life. That’s all we have. That’s a heavy burden, as one of the most adaptive species, and we have a responsibility not to abuse it. Sadly, collectively most humans fail in their responsibility to be kind and fair and to protect all life from human brutality. We are currently destroying every living thing around us at terrifying speed.

“Blessed are the meek; for they shall inherit the Earth.” That’s more accurate. Rest assured, “the meek” can’t include humans. When the few remaining animal species inherit this suffering planet from our destructive rampant grip, I don’t believe Homo sapiens will be included in their numbers.

Agree and think it is the patriarchal narrative but now if we want to use God it seems appalling that we should destroy so much of His or hers creation… There are some Christian groups like Arocha that are fighting hard for Nature.
