Dolphins escape from Taiji facility in Japan – BBC News

It’s so tragic that these animals are so traumatised and conditioned to rely on handouts for resources that they gain their freedom after someone cut the nets and they don’t know what to do with it. Awful breaking of a wild animal’s autonomous, free spirit.

Animal Defenders International : Publications : Political Animals 2015: Badger cull in England

http://www.ad-international.org/publications/go.php?id=4033

Anti-cull campaigners have been saying for years that it is poor animal husbandry and poor hygiene on farms, not to mention extended overwintering of cattle in sheds, that has brought about increased bTB in cattle; but why listen to logic when spending millions of tax payer money on culling our native wildlife appeases farmers of their own guilt?

Now the science is out! It has now been demonstrated that it is infected pasture and faeces that is perpetuating bTB in cattle.

Propaganda, brain-washing, ramming it down our throats, food police, agenda…sound familiar?

Veganism is a social justice movement, amongst many other things. It’s about freedom from oppression, tackling damaging and detrimental assumptions about the human species’ place in the world and liberating those who are abused and killed in their billions. Meanwhile, governments want to maintain the status quo of mindlessly using and abusing other animals for human pleasure and profit because…they can. Because it’s easy to turn living, feeling animals into commodities – ‘products’ – and commit mindless mass slaughter when those animals have no voice.

And because…profit. Money is the root of all evil? It certainly is where factory farming is concerned.

Vets are denied access to abattoir footage | | The Times & The Sunday Times

http://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/vets-denied-access-to-abattoir-footage-hc7z27qmk

“More than 30 slaughterhouses are refusing to let official vets view CCTV footage of animals being killed, prompting concerns that they are hiding illegal acts of cruelty.”

Why? It does not take a genius to work this out. And what are “illegal acts of cruelty” anyway, in contrast to legal acts of cruelty? Vivisectionists commit legal acts of cruelty as a matter of course. Why are we as a species still perpetuating this abominable treatment of other animals every single minute of every single day? Don’t be a part of it. It’s not logical, it’s not ethical, it’s not ok.

We Need to Stop Eating the Oceans

Exposing the Big Game

Yana Rusinovich Watson

by Captain Paul Watson

For centuries, the oceans have fed humanity. But in the last century, humans has destroyed oceanic eco-systems with an ecological ignorance that is insane.

The fisherman has now become one of the most ecologically destructive occupations on the planet. It’s time to put aside the outdated image of the hardy, independent, and hard-working fisherman working courageously to feed society and support his family.
No longer does the typical fishermen go to sea in dories with lines and small nets. Today’s industrial fishermen operate multi-million dollar vessels equipped with complex and expensive technological gear designed to hunt down and catch every fish they can find.

One manufacturer of electronic fish locators (Rayethon) even boasts that with their product, “the fish can run but they can’t hide.
And for the fish, there is no safe place as poachers hunt them down mercilessly, even in marine…

Sea Shepherd are making a film! Fantastic. This combines my two favourite things – and my two degree subjects – in one amazing project, hence my delight at reading this news. This is why I’m studying what I study. Art and science combined to educate and motivate us all to make the vital changes we need to make to halt this destructive path that our species is on.

Coping With Animal-Cruelty-Induced Trauma As A Vegan |

http://www.sydneyveganclub.com.au/health/coping-animal-cruelty-induced-trauma-vegan/

I think that once you see the truth – once your eyes are fully prized apart – the full horror of what we do to our fellow animals today never leaves you. Part of that can be knowing you participated in it by eating meat, dairy, eggs, etc. I was traumatised for months/years. I’m still traumatised, in truth. I still find a lot of animal cruelty witness/evidence videos hard or impossible to watch.

I’m vegan 4+ years now, vegetarian since I was a kid, and I still have nights I fall asleep in tears. I no longer wake up feeling helpless, however. Veganism IS the thing that heals you; it is incredibly empowering knowing you’re not funding or condoning the animal holocaust anymore. Protesting is also empowering. Volunteering and campaigning is great.

Meeting other vegans helps a lot. Connecting and sharing with vegans is the way to lift that horrible sense of hopelessness and impotent rage. You have to believe that the world is changing. That is the only way to keep going. (It’s just so slow!)
